Arid Land

Arid Land

A Poem by Audrey Howitt

heart, beat you hard within this breast
to help me remember
the excitement of languorous ardor
the texture of bristle against neck
the slap of moisture in an arid land

heart, beat you hard within this breast
as flood meets heated desert
and life begins anew

I love short, simple pieces that are painted with a broad stroke, so vivid, and so much said. Beautiful piece!

those hard beating hearts are a sure sign nature is at work

The heart is an arduous place indeed...so much is expected of it
It can get lost in "that arid and vast space" and forget what it is meant to do...keep us alive and in love....
smart, concise and honest write, Audrey

It's striking how sometimes the flesh recalls these feelings so much better than the mind does. As though there are neurons placed there just for that alone.
