Keep It Short (A song)

Keep It Short (A song)

A Poem by drcornelius
"

This is a song

"

If you can’t sing it simple

Then it’s probably not a song

You can fill it full of happy

You can fill it full of wrong

You can make it very short

Better if it’s not too long

But if you can’t sing it simple

Then it’s probably not a song

You can write it in ten chapters

New characters with every page

You can set it in the present

Or some long forgotten age

All the characters can be smiling

Or screaming all their lines in rage

But that can’t be a song

It’s better played out on the stage

The best songs are simple

So everyone can join right in

Songs of joy and transformation

Or even of forgiven sin

These songs are carried around all day

No way to clear them from your head

From rising at the crack of dawn

Until it’s time to go to bed

So if you can’t sing it simple

Then it’s probably not a song

You can fill it full of happy

You can fill it full of wrong

You can make it very short

Better if it’s not too long

But if you can’t sing it simple

Then it’s probably not a song
