I Never Won

I Never Won

A Poem by Emma Garside

I heard you call out her name

I know she's not the one to blame,

but sitting here watching you two makes my hate goodbyes

you kiss her, smile at her, and glaze at her bright blue eyes.

For I know now that I wasn't the one

because you we're never fully done,

and I never won.

It may sound cliché but you had my heart.

What we had was work of art,

and you were the masterpiece.

I am hurt, I am lost, my world is on fire

and now my heart is warped in barbed wire,

because to let someone in again means to trust

and not everyone is made of gold dust.

After everything that's left it may only be lust

In the end whats true love if you don’t have any love.

You fit into my heart like a hand does to a baseball glove.

I never won.

But you were always my loved one.
