nature 1

nature 1

A Poem by h d e rushin
"

for evaline

"
when the cats tore the robin's nest from
atop the electric meter from the back of the house
and ate the chicks

then sat comforted below the pear tree which had,
what my uncle said, looked like a billion blossoms. Then
i'm

thinking that if the pear tree produced a billion pears
what with mother forgetting the sugar content of the
preserve recipe in 2018, then Darwin was right.

Right about nidicolous nest dwelling. Right about
the ethos of poems or the blue gnats in his beard.
Right about how the trans girls always sit together

comparing scars. One says of her breast augmentation, how
one breast is lower than the other. The others nod. Free us
oh Lord, from what looks like

natures selection that is not at all. Just hunger or a kind
of naked vision. Or how old age is analogous to virtue. Or
how a pear tree with a billion blossoms, may topple
over after a hard rain and kill the cats...

that cat...I see that cat in MacBeth's soliloquy
"we still have judgment here"
in our hope for a billion blossom toppling... upon that cat

"if it were done, when it is done, then it were well it were done quickly.
If the assassination could trammel up the consequence, and catch, with his surcease, success
that but this blow might be the be all and end all here...that we teach
bloody instructions, which being taught, return to plague the inventor
this even handed justice commends the ingredients of
our poisoned chalice to our own lips...."

Your delicious blend of grit and genius could only of come from thousands of years of natural selection:) thank you for making me chuckle in this most un-mirthful of times! I see you said this was "nature 1" of which is quite a comfort to me because I want more!!!! You have a beauty that is all to your own Dana and it flows in your words like no other I have read. To be able to write of wretchedness in a manor that makes me laugh and smile in the sorrow of the naked truth is a gift beyond this bunny's hand:/

Sending you love.
those poor cats...hell, mine would just play with the baby robins, and probably try to feed them...
she is so uncat like in her demeanor.
Nature breeds on instinct...humans have the instinct to want to always be different from what they are, more complicated...
oh god, is it really necessary...
or could we just live with acceptance of ourselves...
and move that nest to higher place out of reach of the cats...

And thereby hangs a tale or few. Not quite a tangled weave but oh! so many facets to your thinking here, or perhaps, a chain of a chain showing how it is. I'm slightly bewildered here but it's an enjoyable feeling to be honest. All those blossoms: confetti, snowflakes, thoughts dropped as nudges to whoever. Intriguing insights..
