Barely

Barely

A Poem by Eli Stohl
"

"No thoughts, no emotion, just an ever-stretching darkness."

"

barely

she looked to the sky

she lifted her arms

she took in the sun

she turned

around

she closed her eyes

she smiled

not yet

she wavered

before the corners of her lips

started to turn

her eyes re-opened

she went back into her mind

back into the dark

it was pitch black inside

nothing to see

no thoughts

no emotion

just an ever-stretching darkness

but after getting too cold

in the absence of light

she left her thoughts

she would try again

but this time

it would work

so her eyes fluttered closed

and her lips started to turn

the sun on her face

her arms to the sky

she had escaped the dark

barely
