Hunger

Hunger

A Poem by SilentDreamer

Hunger is weakness
I tell them there's no
Food in the house
It's true but when there is
And I open up the fridge
I tell myself there's nothing there
When those twig-like girls
Complain about their weight
I can't stand it.
When in the middle of class
My stomach growls, and my friends
Glance over at me,
I hate myself.
Cause it just shows the hunger
Still has control.
But at night, just before I sleep,
And I haven't ate, and I can feel
The hunger that wasn't satisfied
I'm happy.
Because the funny thing is-
I can't remember the last time someone
Called me skinny,
Or pretty.
Because I'm neither.

Deep, meaningful, powerful. A sad tale of a consumed mind though, beauitfully written and easy to read.
A lovely write.

very honest and confession-like. a true look at ourselves in the proverbial mirror. i can relate to this poem because i have body-dysmorphia. it expresses just how i feel. thank you for sharing something personal.

Excellent job, you've definitely hit a spot in my heart and in my life as I've felt the same way for years as well. I mean you captured the feelings so well of those who think they need a diet and say how fat their are while you your self have probably been told by a doctor. Also your end was interesting as never been called skinny or pretty but, the thing is I don't think you need to be called either to be it. Anyways I loved this deep and relating poem and I hope you overcome this bothersome issue and well done to a outspoken truth poem of what some people face.

Amazing poem, a great take on the topic, seeing as it is a very touchy subject in this age of diets and idealization of underweight.
But I think what we ourselves should focus on other values, like character qualities, instead of appearances, even if it is a hard thing to do when many people focus merely on looks.
Either way, very well written.

I'm sure a lot of people can relate to this, but the sad part is that you do it to yourself. Everyone is pretty, okay? Maybe you don't think so, maybe not in looks, but in heart.
