Feel a Thing

Feel a Thing

A Poem by Erica Ross

The rage in my body burns like the sun in July
and my feelings for you are as blue as the midnight sky
because the scars you have left on my heart sting like hives.

You are as fair as penny slots at the casino with the wits of the devil
You are as beautiful as the sunset in Reno, with a demeanor that insists you are clever.

Although I feel great love for you, I can't seem to escape this rage
Your love is like a disease, attacking my body like aids.

You are the calm
and I am the storm, meaning you always come before me
But I can't wait for the day that I get the courage to leave.

Your face is as yellow as the sun, and it will burn with rage
as I walk out of your door, forever looking away.
You will beg and plead, you will cry for me.
But I won't budge
No
I will not feel a thing.

Wonderful job capturing the emotions to get the courage to leave a nonreciprocal interrelationship. I like the ending because to me I see it as personal growth and strength. N
