Even as a Friend

Even as a Friend

A Poem by Erica Ross

A void that touches deeply
Leaving fingerprints on my soul
A grip on my arm
Leaving marks of mold.
The breath from your kiss,
Sweet and toxic
Charming at first,
Later, to make me sick.

I wish there was a magnet
That pushed things away
I'd be the first one to get it
To do just the same.

The same voice that I love
Can make me cringe
The same one that I adored
Feels wrong, even as a friend.
