Bears Just Want To Have Fun

Bears Just Want To Have Fun

A Poem by Eric Cox

The hunters have them in their sights

blowing holes in them brings such delight

Look! I slaughtered a great big bear.”

posing for a picture with a smile aflare

through the trees the bear's mate gazes long

in her heart the tears of loss ache strong

many bears, deer, the list of kills stretches on

for the sake of sport many close critters gone

How about a hunt for humans, sounds just

they get a thrill each time our kind is blown to dust.”

Sounds like a grand idea, let's spread the open season word

let's bag some hunters, fun and justice is assured.”

through the woods claws and fangs for human meat

the taste of hunters such a savorful treat

sneaking up silently upon hunters unaware

it's open season upon their flesh served rare

the slaughter of hunters has now begun

like hunters of old, bears just want to have fun

oh my god! this is amazing, upon reading the title I thought it would be light and humorous...but you surprised me and gave the title a new meaning through clever (though dark) humour. I love the alternative look at hunting that you offer, and I truly believe that this should feature on campaigns against bear hunting. keep it up (:

Great, black humour that transports truth and wisdom, and with exactly the right moral position, it is not right to kill animals just to satisfy your own ego, really like this.

A darkly playful poem with a serious message. Maybe we ought to be kinder to the animals that live around us and not use them for sport. Good poem!!!!!!

Though playful in your rhythmic flow, your stike a chord that is somber and sure. Too often we take little regard in the life around us... Thank you for making us aware with the fun tinted thoughts of a bear.

Ha! I love this. The hunters got what they deserve. Let the bears have fun for a long while!

Sometimes the hunter becomes the hunted. When no compassion is given none should be expected in return. Great poem. I love the idea of it.

When bears killed humans. It is a dangerous animal. When human kill bears. It is hunting. I like the ideal of this poem. I like the artwork and the very nice ending. Thank you for the outstanding poetry.

Very clever. The hunted always want to be hunters. It speaks volumes on what we do for unecessary sport. Very well written.
