a shattered cafe

a shattered cafe

A Poem by jacob erin-cilberto

a shattered cafe

wasn't on the menu as an appetizer,

a serving of bullets,

wasn't on the program as a song,

the sounds of screaming fans

but not for the band,

wasn't meant for the poor people of Paris

to linger on the streets

in forever sleep,

the soccer ball deflated

the stadium suddenly silent

with mute explosion,

a goal of sorts,

but the agenda improvised, realized, compromised

and the question of which coach?

who sent in the play

that set Paris reeling under a red Moon

there will be no June

in the hearts tonight

November will be the only month

they will remember.

Beautiful and powerful. Tells the story in only words like an artist can. Truly powerful and a great read.

A sad day for Paris. I like the attitude of the Paris folks a day later. Didn't allow fear to overtake. Paris won. Thank you my friend for sharing the powerful poetry.

You're very welcome, jacob...and that it is, indeed
Indeed, just as we remember 9/11, Paris will always remember 11/13.....days that will "live in infamy". We must remember though....we must ensure this terrorism does not continue. This is a worldwide problem. Who sent in these terrorists? We all know....and it is time to do something about it. Well written, Jacob. Very emotive. Lydi**

I like the contrast between a sports game environment and the circumstances in Paris that day. The fans versus the fanatics. The leadership of the coach versus strict orders from the leader or the organized criminals.

A perfectly written poem Jacob. You've incorporated the elements and feelings of something that is beyond understanding in a creative way only a pen like yours can write.

I am speechless. You brought out the pain felt by all in such profound words of sorrow.

I stand in solidarity with you and the people of Paris in condemning these barbaric attacks and expressing distress and heartfelt loss at the lives ruined. Nous ne comprendrons jamais.

It was so so sad for Paris and your poem here is so sad particularly the end. My heart goes out to the victims. Here in our country students were murdered in the same way at a local university. So sad
