a shattered cafe

a shattered cafe

A Poem by jacob erin-cilberto

a shattered cafe

wasn't on the menu as an appetizer,

a serving of bullets,

wasn't on the program as a song,

the sounds of screaming fans

but not for the band,

wasn't meant for the poor people of Paris

to linger on the streets

in forever sleep,

the soccer ball deflated

the stadium suddenly silent

with mute explosion,

a goal of sorts,

but the agenda improvised, realized, compromised

and the question of which coach?

who sent in the play

that set Paris reeling under a red Moon

there will be no June

in the hearts tonight

November will be the only month

they will remember.

One of the best works on tragedy. Stunning and heartbreaking. You've captured it all so well. I particularly like the dim beginning and how it feels somewhat dazed and shocked.

yes, dazed and shocked and wondering where and when the next attacks will be...so sad.

cruel, cowardly, misguided, murderers ... the breath goes out of our souls .. but fighting back .. is first in my mind ... so sorry that it is the only option terrorism offers ... kill me .. or i will kill you and all yours that i can .. so carry our defenses close and don't hesitate .. not for a moment!

yes ... most certainly does. :(
Yesterday, I took a moment to reflect on what I was doing, before I heard the news.
It's just so sad it makes me angry, and heart-broken. They were just going about their life as well.
All lost to such senseless acts of violence and hate.

My thoughts and prayers are with Paris.

A very touching tribute, and the words were just so beautiful.

who sent in the play?! love that play on the soccer game, such good references in here. Very good poem to remember the ones lost, and all the horrible events and needless carnage from someone's cruel coach.

It's scary that our world is getting more and more dangerous. When will the series of attack on humanity end?

I know. It is terrible. The world is full of dangerous people right now.
The sadness and the madness will no doubt continue. To be convinced that these actions will reap eternal reward is beyond belief to any decent human being and a God would be weeping at the actions carried out in his name.. Totally shocked and numbed by the actions of few, deciding the fates of the innocents. The café, the fast food place, the Stade de France, where the game being played was ironically an international FRIENDLY match, and the concert goers that never stood a chance. The families and friends, as well as the scarred survivors are in my thoughts.
Poignant read Jacob, truly well written.
