zzzz's and gardens with different zip codes

A Poem by jacob erin-cilberto

zzzz's and gardens with different zip codes

you once encompassed all i could want

long before i could contemplate what i really wanted

i stood amazed and hobbled by the scent of you

the lack in sense of me

you kissed me into the ground

and covered me up in your embrace

i was red hot coals

leaning against cold stone

there was an epitaph etched

before its time was meant to come

we were Adam and Eve

before Adam and Eve existed

we laughed in an uninvented garden

when it was just a twinkled plan in God's eye

our love ran together

unabashed, naked realizations

uncomplicated

the bare truth of what we were

we kept walking each other home

but never got there

now there is house that lingers on a street

and inside is you

outside is me

and all i could want

but totally different from what i got

you are the last glimpse

before my eyes blink closed for the night

all i could want

and yet,

even on another block

in another town

in another garden

i sleep quite well

on a pillow of soft memories

and with a slight smile

while Eden's eye

breaks, just a little.

A sadness permeates this amazing write with places, gardens and changing zip codes. Those naked realizations allow the mail to be posted to the right place or be lost in lingering. I love the back story about Adam and Eve and the comparison between the heavenly adress and the Earthly one. Brilliant.

You are welcome.
A peak into your heart, your joy, your memories- thank you for this..we are in Eden with you, loving purely and with abandon..we laugh and cry with you and then we smile because you are whole and here, though Eden has grown over. Thank you for your ever-brilliant, Master-Class work my friend and Happy New Year to you!

Jacob, perhaps my favorite of your poems (I'm still reading though). I've read hundreds of poems on this site, and most reveal an immaturity, relatively little life and its lessons. Even if I didn't know your background, I'd certainly conclude you've lived and loved long enough to learn a few things, some of which you've shared here.

You so simply but eloquently convey humility and a gentle self-confidence, gained from more than a few years of living, as expressed in "i sleep quite well...on a pillow of soft memories... and with a slight smile." It's the comfort with self, and the realization that happiness comes from within. That's my takeaway. I enjoyed this one very much. Thanks.

Ah, new love....we all think it is the one and only love in the world that will ever count or has ever counted...until.... Still, if we can keep the good memories and smile remembering them, it is precious. Wonderful metaphor, Jacob. Lydi**

I love this one J. I pictured Eden's eye as the dawning sun at the close of this, so sad about the separation. Why must this always be so I wonder?
when it seems so easy for everyone else.

your passionate oh so very well written description of your embraces and youthful joi d' vie and the comparison to being in eden's garden before eden is beautiful ------there is nothing like young love.. we think that we invented it...
yet the sadness remains as you enter the house sleeping fine but eden blinks great great work
