small spills

small spills

A Poem by jacob erin-cilberto

small spills

coffee shop conversations

writing on napkin parchment

because words spoken aloud

feel shallow

a modest attempt to make connection

when hearts hang on introspection

not interrogation

of muses trying to hold hands

the waitress passes by

lips sealed,

she knows what is happening

she senses the tip coming

and it’s not a monetary donation

it’s a feeling of fusing

as two people stare into each other’s thoughts

pens poised

minds leaning

she smiles

imagines pouring a poem

into their cups…

Ah, this is beautiful. Softly romantic. Sometimes, people just need to know they EXIST in the eyes of the masses. I took a trip to New York. I said hello to a stranger cleaning a bathroom. She asked me if I was okay ... I thought, wow, so sad she'd think there's something wrong ...

that is sad...but yes, people get surprised by a kindness....
