we sounded so good, once

we sounded so good, once

A Poem by jacob erin-cilberto

we sounded so good, once

almost every old song

is a film clip in my mind

of you,

times enchanted,

lover's embrace in the grooves

the diamond stylus

touches the vinyl

even though the ring never reached your finger

delusions, intrusions

and evolutions all happened

in sparse synapses of love

and memories space themselves out in an array

of intricately laced conceptions...

daily records play of you

and me,

and that summer solstice

we shared

as the patterns of past

crisscross with dreams

that had inception, perception

then interception

with timing's misfortune

and our hearts' tunes

still playing of us on that old radio

sounding as it did yesterday

even though today

is decades later---

This is a masterpiece! So lyrical in sound! You capture how music cements nostalgic memories for years to come & music evokes so much that's "in there"! *smile* Fondly, Margie

I just loved this. I love anything relating music to life and you do it here with such nostalgic beauty. Thoroughly enjoyed.

Detailed Imagery richly reflects intimate knowledge of the times recalled.
No matter their degree of falsehood, memories can be sweet and comforting.
After all, we often make them that way.
In both concept and craft, your poetry rates among the best on this--or any--website.

You've penned beautifully how some relationships get better with time and the memories are etched in hearts. A bittersweet yet a warm poem. Loved it 💕😊

:) love the feel of these words together....

Some memories stay and the songs we associate with them.... everything once we shared remains a memory...

And you have captured it soo beautifully.... :)
I like part of
the ring never reached your finger.... how it did not make it till there but still there was many things which you cannot explain ... but you managed to capture it...

You pen so masterfully... it reads as smooth as a Sinatra song sounds. Excellent piece!

For me, this is about how some relationships become better in our minds over time. Leaving us with that feeling of longing and nostalgia

Just cuz the record is worn out doesn’t mean the music isn’t still as sweet as the first time we heard it. You have a great ear it translates to poetry that sounds so real and your phrasing is slwYs impeccable.

I think you have to be of a certain age to truly appreciate the bittersweet beauty of this one. How easily a chance encounter or the hearing of an old song can catapult us back in memory to times long gone and make us feel the love and the pain of those times. Very nicely done.
