Dangerous Stash

Dangerous Stash

A Poem by jacob erin-cilberto

Dangerous Stash

i keep a bottle of you

hidden,

where your perception

is oblivious to my heart's intentions

a drawer filled with mixed emotions

neatly ironed expressions

love's label a liaison

a sip of covert concession

admittance is the first step to sobriety

but when it comes to your affection

i would rather have a lost weekend

than die without stealing a few shots of you

even if i wake up on Monday

with no memory

that we happened.

As I wrote earlier, I love this kind of mixing up of nouns, verbs, adjectives.

"He gets high on you and the space he invades, he gets by on you." from Today's Tom Sawyer by RUSH. Yes, everything reminds me of a song. :) I enjoyed the read.

This is really fantastic. The analogies are stunning and the rhetoric on point. Jacob you really do a great job showing us little bits of life in such an original way. Its why I so like to return to your writing again and again. Great work!!

But a stash we are addicted to is it not; the foolish heart ever ruling the head in the matter of love.

As for no memory on a Monday. No such thing as no memory is there jacob, though there are perhaps times we wish it were not so.

That which captures our attention may enslave more than our attention.
Like the metaphor. The stash could well be Faith, which at times is a person, place, or thing.

What a great description of a love that has been lost and how the one left behind copes in the absence of that love...always a pleasure to read your work Jacob :)

A life of amorous "lost weekends."
Not sure if you should go "cold turkey." Illusions do so sustain us.
Excellent poem!

thank you, Jimmy....i probably live too many illusions.
Love can be such a drug, opiating even those who pride themselves with astute discernment.
