A Poem by jacob erin-cilberto

emotions with toast

you were once blond deliverance

and i a muckraker poet of college descent

trying to get a decent education

but descending into an abyss

of circumventing lectures

you served me breakfast

at the cafeteria with your hazel smile

and my heart longed for scrambled

six days a week,

we embraced on Sundays

and my grades found cushion

in my fall of you

Bells swished in spring winds

kisses made clouds blush

crimson rain fell joyously

and then the books closed

i had a few torn-out pages

left for posterity

thought about you from time to time

but never touched scrambled again.

Love the title. I see another ramble back thru time and left with "a few torn-out pages." Reminds me of Dylan's old song, "My Back Pages." I like that line, "and my grades found cushion in my fall of you."
I remember my wife saying how her grades in nursing school fell off after we first met. Now I'm probably a distraction in other ways!!

You are welcome.
A lovely write, I had visions of the Pretenders video clip Brass in pocket which made the write even more special.

Looking to avoid scrambled emotions.
Despite the extremely clever but rather mundane subjects of your metaphors, this piece represents a truly charming tribute that is also intensely romantic.
Most creative work, Jacob!

Sweet scene to eavesdrop on...you the “muckraker poet of college descent”- this line is pure genius-with she, your “blond deliverance”- boom! So many inspired lines in this poem j., but what emanates is your sweetness, guilelessness and loving nature- even as a young man. Your words remember and honor this time joyously and with a lighthearted vulnerability that you don’t often show in your writing. I think you revealed a bit of the real Jacob-and he is a tender spirit. Kudos.

How warm your words are with this young romance. One from the memory bank and at a time of year when many are thinking of love. Seems she played her part in getting you through college Jacob.

dear Jacob... when I was nineteen I attended a college in the Napa Valley of California. We had Artichokes for lunch and dinner. Hands would would be moving all over the Cafeteria dipping artichoke leaves in butter or whatever. The heart 💜 of the artichoke is really what mattered and led to after school rendezvous ...
food and romance outside of class ... A Valentine to remember. truly, Pat

A fling with the 'dinner lady'?
Whatever the case you have once again taken the art of allegory and made it your own. This reeks of young romance, a naive and distracted student struggling with studies being washed along life's path, but still looking back and holding such moments preciously.
