instead of you

instead of you

A Poem by jacob erin-cilberto

instead of you

in the indeterminate sunlight

i saw what i thought was your face

in the intermittent sirens

thought i heard you whisper love

i was driven to the scene of the serene

hoax found

shadowed redolence

dis-tempered screams

among the lies

and lines in your fractured smile

just sat awhile

absorbing the sounds of the sham

holding a hand

that didn't hold back

then screamed at the ending frown

that perched

in the stead of your

siren smile's place---

How you weave so much life and history into your words... there is a painful, tragic echo that seems to awaken... flowing through this mirage of light... and how it makes my heart ache to hear it.

What was it we said? If you love someone set them free...if it was meant to be they'll come back...or some such crap...more often than not they were gone for good with just those unwelcome longings returning.
Shoulda got a dog.

Good write, j.

I don't know if it's unrequited love or misplaced/misguided.
Sometimes I wonder when this happens if they themselves even know.
It's so disappointing isn't it? When we set our sights on something that we hope will return our affection only to find out it was false.

Being drawn to love or what seems like love is human but not always do we see what we get. What seems inviting isn't always so and we are stunned by our own misconception. I can feel the shock, disappointment and angst right here, in your words.

Another very sad and forlorn tale as the protasgonist sees and hears wartning signs that all is not well but still hangs on until the end. As always you conjour up amazing allegorical treats that give meaning to such hurt Jacob.
