blame it on bad coaching

blame it on bad coaching

A Poem by jacob erin-cilberto

blame it on bad coaching

i was what age?

silly something

naive lover with fumbling hands

scoring accidental touches

but never touchdowns

extra points were hard to come by

for an awkward adolescent trying to play off the bench

to score in the clutch

i held her tight and she winced

and froze

like we were playing the "Ice Bowl"

---- i ended up losing her game

and being traded after three dates

for a new guy to be named later.

J,
a wonderfully humorous poem . . . using a great metaphor! Thanks.

This metaphorical gem blew me away! The playfulness of courtship and our adolescent urges. Round of applause to this piece!

i guess we all can at times...:)))
Very nice! Love the comparison to a past lover to a sport/game, it's a very creative way of describing her personality and the relationship itself. I do hope you're doing well, no one deserves to be played with.

Ouch, J. Reminds me of my adolescent years and only year I played baseball. I struck out every trip to the plate, except the one time a pitch hit me in the face. I took first base and was quickly thrown out trying to steal second. Reflecting now, it was the same dating experience. I’m laughing about it, though I see your football scene playing out here. I hope you found the right team and broke a few records. :)

Oh the awkwardness of young love certainly stumbles across the page with these lines Jacob. We all have to start somewhere and I smiled as I reflected on my own experiences. Your metaphor here is so clever, and that ice bowl so cold. Great stuff.

I think many will. Particularly of our age group.
The awkwardness of young love. I love this. It takes me back.
You wrote is so well with spot on metaphors.
