spontaneous combustion

A Poem by jacob erin-cilberto

spontaneous combustion

nearly incited to riot
your kiss inflamed me
my tinder knees buckled and once i gained balance
i was carrying signs of you
in my blushing cheeks,
i screamed your name to the masses
said a little silent prayer that you felt as i

looked into eyes that turned me to ashes
a happy sinner
i gladly burned at the stake
and let the blaze engulf
my heart

sending smoke signals up to God
thanking him for a reason
to protest
what i was actually
craving all along.

Oh my. When that tinder ignites and flames uncontrolled, what a burning that is. Glorious in its warmth and brightness. Something you just have to keep feeding, you don't want dying embers. Love needs work. Great piece Jacob. Who says your words aren't on fire :) A great little write from you.

thank you for your kind words, Chris...

''Love is a burning thing/And it leaves a fiery ring," sang Johnny Cash. This poem has similar symbolism, a lot of it. It captures perfectly the combustible effects of youthful love, totally engulfing the individual. Unfortunately, such towering flames often leave only ashes in their wake, but that's another story. Well done.

thank you for your words, John...great song that one.

I very much long to feel that excitement of love again.
Even with the awkwardness and unsure moments, the nervous tension.
I can almost feel it in your poem.

thank you, Edie...it would be nice to feel that again, yes.

Filled with desire and urgency....like teenage attraction! That first kiss is so steamy....so overwhelming. It stays with a person. Is it a sin according to some religion? Perhaps, but what a delicious one. Once you have that kind of excitement...that totally passionate attraction....it is impossible not to crave it. Good write, Jacob. Lydi**

Still like it! Not even sure what the change was.

just streamlined the last line....
This one is one that many can relate to.. that sense of love at first site, or in this case, first kiss.

Enjoyed the read.

Wishing you well.

I'm actually quite lost on the context of your writing, though i know there are happy memories and thoughts of foreboding in between the lines.

We all want to believe, but what if it does not happen, maybe we just love for the moment and wait to see what happens and maybe, maybe the belief wasn't meant to happen. I don't believe so I already have peace of mind so where do I go from here? I am content without beliefs! Great write maestro!
