tiny little fleas

my memories of you

the collar of naivety

tightened

but then wisdom sprayed

itself upon my infested heart

 

and finally,

i was flea free

and ready for tea

 

with another

knowing i had shed the collar

 

and could love

without having to constantly

scratch the past.

It still amazes me how deep those irritating little mites can bite and how insanely jealous they are of us when we aren't being irritated by their memory. With every absent minded itch, the realisation becomes more apparent, that like herpes, it is the gift that keeps on giving.
And we fall for it every time.

i have to give credit to Hank, my kitten...we are pretty much getting rid of them...they came with her, from the shelter...but thanks to her, this metaphor was inspired.
