I'm no T.S. Eliot

I'm no T.S. Eliot

i am sorry,
but this will not be "the great poem"
the masterpiece with golden words
it won't be taught in Literature classes
or even in English 101 as an introduction to poetry

it will just be some average lines
with average words
for the average reader
to sop up
then mop up
afterwards, the spillage
of verbiage

that never made the final cut
but ended up like a drunk, totally wasted
swimming in his own vomit of stupidity

wishing he could talk straight
without slurring
as i wish to write a poem
that would be ever enduring

that readers would claim to wish
to have written themselves

i am sorry
i only have the keys
to type a used poem
with lots of mileage

but you can have it real cheap
and have me real cheap
with or without my poems.

Like most famous poets, death hath become them. Poetry rarely pays the rent and rarely delivers, but to a select few, during their lifetime. But Most here would love this wonderful, pathos packed free verse and as with all of your work, most would see it up there with the greats Jacob.

oh jacob! such a harsh reality check .. but one never knows .. and you have a lot of "keepers" as I call them .. worthwhile and generous .. I understand this poem but I do not relate to it ... the farthest I have gone down that path is a very brief flash of "hmmmmmmmmm could it possibly be? .. might I come up with something exceptional?" ..but thank goodness for my own enjoyment .. that flash is quick and quickly gone .. I imagine for me that road is just too painful to go down .. and I have had enough of that in my life :) I love the frank honesty of this ..if we don't strive to create the best we can ..we fall behind and into a rut ... inspiration can hit at surprising moments and places ..you have students you have no idea how you and your poetry have effected in positive ways .. poetry goes beyond the writing eh1? thanks for sharing sir ... maybe if you go sky diving ... the down time will get shaken off :)))))))))))))
