Pray for the Prey

Pray for the Prey

A Poem by jacob erin-cilberto

Pray for the Prey

elusive heart

shy abide

nest of erratic wings

she flies within her head

but inside the apocalypse

of feelings

and wishing to grow confidence

to leave

she absorbs the pain

keeps her within striking distance

of real love

but straw intentions

keep her tied to unhappiness

she retracts her talons

wings in ancient flutter

still do not allow her to fly.

the urge to fly lurks within all of us, but inside the apocalypse of feeling is, probably the safest place to try another great poem,

wow so familiar these stirrings that you penned have known many that were afraid to let themselves fly again hard to tell if the talons were keeping her from taking off or was it the prey. prayers for the preyer is one of my favorite sets of words perhaps I should pray for them both:)

Wings clipped, so many never learn to fly. Well penned, Jacob. I was especially moved by the closing stanza. My poem, "My Timorous Wings," could almost have been composed as a counterpoint to this one -- except, I wrote it last year.

One of those songs that sticks with me thru the years is the powerful way Martina McBride sings "Broken Wing" . . . your poem has so much power in similar, but unique ways. It always boggles my mind how many people stay in a spirit-throttling situations, but change is even harder for some! (((HUGS))) Fondly, Margie

That's a super description of someone not able to say screw it and follow their vision, dreams, etc. Old feelings can be like chains and you described that wonderfully with raptor like precision. Lol. Good one.

Finding the will to cut loose while still having desires to stay put is portrayed in these lines most engagingly jacob -- and thank you for versing the challenge of finding the confidence.

It’s rather funny really we are all prey to someone, I suppose that’s how nature works.

The she here is still imprisoned by thoughts of past failed relationships. She has wings in her head, she wishes to escape but has not found the courage yet to do so.

she retracts her talons
wings in ancient flutter

Patience required here. She needs more time.

Perfectly penned Jacob.
