a mirrored love

a mirrored love

A Poem by jacob erin-cilberto

a mirrored love

dad,

in retrospect

a friend,

an accomplice

an unwavering crutch

when i couldn't walk straight

dad,

in retrospect

circumspect

with compliments

damning the poetic soul of me

but the shoulder always there

dad

in retrospect

coming to conclusion

that my life was illusion

but in the end

seeing i was as real

as he and,

in retrospect

i suspect

he is smiling

at these words

and my allusions

that once were his confusions

in retrospect

became the respect

eventually shared

when we both dared

to accept.

Very nicely done
I'd like to go back and smooth over a few of our bumps
I was not an easy offspring, but that shoulder was always there

thank you for relating and understanding, Dave,
j.
This is lovely. Most parents want the best for their children and want to protect them from making mistakes along the way. Releasing them and setting them free to fly of their own accord takes a lot of letting go and essentially means the job is done. This acceptance is the letting go. Beautiful!
