Autumn's Signature

Autumn's Signature

A Poem by jacob erin-cilberto

Autumn’s Signature

a harsh embalming

wrapped in icy wind

sutured by biting frost

love's skin pulled back

exposing an errant mind

that over interrogated

the love that wounded it

and let a heart bleed out

when the pain

was nowhere near fatal

and no time of death

could ever be established,

even when the emotions

had turned an infectious

blue

decades ago.

Melancholic autumn. Always manages to alter my mood. Reminds me of the end of summer holidays and returning to school. What a downer. This time of year can make us reflect on past times, often happy, but not lasting. I always take an emotional hit in the autumn. This little poem evokes sadness, a real sadness that comes from loss. The loss of love.

I will always Love Autumn, even though it's true, it can pull out all those memories and emotions that we thought we forgot, the smell of lost love is on the Autumn's air, we feel it, we absorb it, as if we are living it again... that old memory. emotional write my friend.

We keep revisiting that place of icy burial. For love, there is no respite, no rest, even in death. Brilliantly written Jacob....

I think we have paid them just got to recoup our sang froid now
Brrrrr, you have let the cold in Jacob .... shut the door because if i were ever to fall in love again it would be in autumn.
A harsh embalming wrapped in icy wind would be so painful that death would be welcome i would think, never to allow warmth to penetrate again....

Has a bit of darkness to it, I keep thinking of laura palmer from twin peaks though that says more bout me than it probably does the intention. also I have been on a David Lynch kick lately. this one means a lot to me. which is always a good sign. I am just rambling as I type but even emotional wounds acknowledged if not properly treated overwhelm all of us. great poem has a wonderful emotional dichotomy.

I love the frozen imagery here.....really works well. the fourth stanza is my favorite because I believe that once our hearts and minds suffer trauma due to love gone wrong, we must take care not to neglect our fragile hearts when they need so desperately to be nursed back to health. Excellent write, as usual, my friend.
