Eyes Alone

Eyes Alone

A Poem by jacob erin-cilberto

Eyes Alone

i scraped my knees

put holes in my jeans

sliding in genuflection

to ask you to marry me

i was fourteen you were twelve

in real intimacy we never dwelt

butterfly kisses

made us together fly

i knew you would always crowd my eye

but teen years drifted past

we knew it would not last

you were gone before i knew

it was only upon adolescent wings

we flew.

those jeans since patched

to Goodwill went

and now my eye in rueful bent

has too much room for tears to rent.

Clever, insightful and, of course, terribly sad.
What I remember most about my first love was placing her on a pedestal and not wanting to get close
enough to spot any flaws that would mar the perfection with which I burdened her.
Indeed, I preferred to love from afar--for the first and last time.

Oh how delicious. Young love. I can remember my twelve year old heart in a real flutter over the paper boy. I would get up at 6.30am to watch this thirteen year old streak of leaness in his emerald green jersey, Watched him deliver all the papers till he disappeared from sight. He never noticed me ever :)

Mine wasn’t even butterfly kisses, it was just comic books exchanged. I believe the bliss was the same. You recreated it for me, here.

Oh the thrills and angsts of young love. I vaguely remember it, LOL
I do believe you captured the essence of it very nicely.

The first crush ended in drifting away, in torn jeans and memory, in rueful bents. This was so nostalgic and touching. Those days are part and parcel of the good ole days sir. Lessons of life to dwell on.

dear Jacob... it is amazing the height of passion that young teens experience. I would cry because I had a Crush on the popular guy
with blond hair and would sing solos in the Choir. Now no one knows where he went or if he is alive. He moved to Las Vegas and disappeared. His Mother cried when he lost touch. Such is life. Pat
