Clever, insightful and, of course, terribly sad.
What I remember most about my first love was placing her on a pedestal and not wanting to get close
enough to spot any flaws that would mar the perfection with which I burdened her.
Indeed, I preferred to love from afar--for the first and last time.

Oh how delicious. Young love. I can remember my twelve year old heart in a real flutter over the paper boy. I would get up at 6.30am to watch this thirteen year old streak of leaness in his emerald green jersey, Watched him deliver all the papers till he disappeared from sight. He never noticed me ever :)

The first crush ended in drifting away, in torn jeans and memory, in rueful bents. This was so nostalgic and touching. Those days are part and parcel of the good ole days sir. Lessons of life to dwell on.
oh man! i am cryin' now buddy! even tho in my own youth me eye was always crowded with too many young ladies to give me pause to rend me jeans ;) but i did wear holes in them .. quite a bit actually ..

dear Jacob... it is amazing the height of passion that young teens experience. I would cry because I had a Crush on the popular guy
with blond hair and would sing solos in the Choir. Now no one knows where he went or if he is alive. He moved to Las Vegas and disappeared. His Mother cried when he lost touch. Such is life. Pat

yes, the height of passion in young teens...sometimes i wish we could get that back in our older age.
thank you for sharing, Pat...
