impeccable Insomnia

impeccable Insomnia

A Poem by jacob erin-cilberto

Impeccable Insomnia

sleep wound its way

into a crevasse

i couldn't reach,

eyes, just slits

in the sunlight

pouring through

my shades of blue

longing

can't keep you in my dreams

can't keep you in my awakenings

there is that infinitely small

space

by your side

so i slapped the alarm shut

it squealed from the sting

that you would never sing

to me

for me

or with me

even when i hold your note

in my hand.

and watch the minutes

tick by.

sometimes insomnia holds a certain seduction that only certain creative minds can grasp - this is a delightful peek into the sleepless mind.

I think so, yes
Beautiful write about insomnia ( I can relate to that)...dreams, light sleep, exhaustion, trying to close your eyes and dream about a loved one:
; this is so real and so perfectly written,I can feel it. Yours, Betty

You’re quite welcome, Betty
Someone has gone. They left a note and you have been left with a mind that can't rest. Tossing and turning throughout the night. I think you do insomnia very well. I'm pretty good at it too. Night is the time when the mind starts playing its games. It can be cruel and it can last long after the event has taken place. Comes back when it thinks it will.

In dreams and awake, like neutrinos at a disco, the flit in and out of clarity and existence, but with the added bonus that we can never tell when they will reappear or howvivid they will be, we just know it will be soon.
And chicken soup fails to work on this soul too.

There are many reasons why we might have trouble sleeping at night.... most of them are probably emotional or psychological. It took me a while to realize that the reason in this poem was missing someone. I enjoyed this read thoroughly.

You're welcome
As I often say, the inability to sleep is not nearly as problematic as the inability to awaken.
Still, feverish insomnia often makes you wish you were dead.
One-sided love appears to be the major cause.
All the one left behind can do, is ride it out; albeit, painfully.
The worst of it could be over, when the abandoned lover stops reading notes
and starts singing them.

Long sleepless nights...the mind working overtime...what ifs...why nots...eyes feeling like two piss holes in the snow...unable to connect...unable to maintain the feelings from either side...nothing left but to slap the alarm silent hold the old note to the cheek and stare at the clock marking the passage of time.

A good write j.

Impeccably written Jacob. Though, I think that there is nothing like never in the universe. Its too fluid, volatile and vacillating.

so i slapped the alarm shut
it squealed from the sting

Thanks Jacob :) it’s the company I keep :) You’re welcome always.
The loss of a close relationship can indeed cause insomnia. Liked the way the poem uses images to evoke the speaker's inner pain. The shades of blue are the longing for one no longer there. The alarm clock squealing from the sting of being slapped shut stands for the pain of knowing the other will never be there again. Only with time will healing be allowed to bring rest.
