Drawing a Blank

Drawing a Blank

A Poem by jacob erin-cilberto

Drawing a Blank

shallow melodies

incorporated into a soundtrack

of meaningless repetition

his 8-track life

on a 9 to 5 reel

of monotonous tape

yields to his ravenous rage

12 gauge sits in the bed of his truck

waiting for the explosion

and his 15 minutes of fame....

"oh they will remember me"

he quips silently to himself

"they will remember..."

as he turns the key on himself

and his engine sputters

then dies.

J,
Another fine poem in a social commentary style. Not sure this how anyone should be remembered.

you are kind, T.
thank you,

powerful piece, tells the truth of a story unfortunately too true. It's such a shame that people feel so much pain they feel this is their only option.

Unfortunately, this may be the only talent these people possess...the ability to pick up a weapon and get even with anyone who have offended them.
Is it we who fail them?

Well written friend.

You have hit a chord here
Gun violence of any type is almost becoming the norm
Another mass shooting yesterday

yes, one after another...mass shootings, suicides...
life cut short as a norm.

I am frustrated by those that take so many lives and then in the end take their own. They want to make a statement? Why take the innocent with them? Instead write a manifesto, tell of all the lives you saved by not going on a killing spree and did it by killing yourself. I know, it's too simplistic, who would pay any attention? It certainly wouldn't make the evening news or the morning papers. Not enough blood, not enough gore, not enough anguish from surviving loved ones.
Take care - Dave

all of this is so true...thank you, Dave...

He turns the gun on himself, he has reached the tipping edge. Sad to think that for so many, they think this is the only way to solve their immediate problem. Perhaps if there was someone to talk to and share it might not get to this. Sadly there aren't enough people prepared to listen and in some circumstances those about to kill themselves don't want to share. My feelings about this are so different from those murdering b******s who take out a whole lot of people and then go on to kill themselves afterwards. They can rot in hell :) Wow, hit that one off my chest. Like the way you have used numbers. Life is all about statistics.

With a constant stream of gun violence in this country, I wonder if anyone still tries to get inside the mind of one of these hopeless murderers? I love how poem conveys a stark scene that may be similar to what many people imagine, each time we hear about another . . . but I could go for something a little more outside the dots of what we expect such a person to be (((HUGS))) Fondly, Margie

This is the way out for those who do not know how to ask for help nor know how to apologize and mean it, even to oneself. No judgements just sayin a sorrowful place to be with oneself.

yes, a sorrowful place indeed. thank you, Corset.

Pushed to the brink, a desperate man, misunderstood, ignored, forgotten, angry, sad, filled with hopelessness, reaching out and his bad luck. If authorities paid more attention to these poor souls, these events may not happen but like the perpetrators they have no people skills either.
