when alone is not lonely

when alone is not lonely

A Poem by jacob erin-cilberto

when alone is not lonely

i live just on the outskirts

of love,

blocks of likely sentiment

smiles, hugs,

winks

goodbyes till next time

my heart is unguarded

never locked

the solitude is safe enough

it's a short trip to passion

a hand to hold

lips to mingle

i live just on the outskirts

of love,

can almost see it from my blushed window

can hear it calling sometimes

i am tempted to take that short drive

but then, my quiet heart

opts

to close the blinds on the day

shield from the lights that call

open my can of seclusion

and take a welcome sip.

There is much truth in your title here, J. Choosing to live independently and alone certainly doesn't mean one is lonely; the active mind will always find a companion to occupy it. I do believe however, that no matter our age or experience, we shouldn't close the blinds when it comes to matters of the heart. For it's inside there that our true age resides. Cans of seclusion contain too much sugar, so open those blinds, open that door and be swept away by the fresh, invigorating breeze of possibility. I adore the poem. Lovingly gentle and touching.

Acceptance is a powerful thing, if not,you are on the outskirts but looking in maybe that’s a good thing.

I love this poem because lately I can’t be bothered with giving up my warm and comfy seclusion too. If we love ourselves enough, there shouldn’t be a problem to love our own company.

Bless you dear poet friend. Enjoy every moment of that precious solitude 😽💕
(open my can of seclusion and take a welcome sip.) I've often thought about those times we seem to refuse to be happy or content by our own will.....almost refusing to be what we most want to be. Ah...the art(?) of being human eh Jacob? I always enjoy your words because you give me something to think about. Thank you! ~Sharon

yes, the art of being human...and drawing ourselves as we will.
thank you,

What a fabulous expression, to live on the outskirts of love. Close enough to dip your toe into the waters if you choose, but preferring to stay where you are. Love can spell danger, this poem speaks to me of contentment. Happy to be where you are. Excellent poetry Jacob.

And i live on the outskirts of civilisation, love and sometimes reality... But i truly wouldnt have it any other way.
Visitors are welcome, as long as they remember to leave.
