child of the times

child of the times

A Poem by jacob erin-cilberto

child of the times

letter levee breaks

words drown the town

of Metaphor

but the population rises in configured countenance

a form in a foray of births

poems fill the maternity word ward

sons of Fathers

daughters of Mothers

children of once-pregnant poets

as mates wait

outside the gates of thought

hoping for even the minutest glance

at the child, before it is titled

and put up for adoption

then placed in homes labeled as journalistic w***e houses

to grow up plagiarized but never placated

just orphaned, oblique offerings

chastised by anal-retentive eccentrics

who hate what they can't understand

but can't understand why they hate

can never become fostering bards

raising poems as their own.

Said this to Margie, I would love to paint something original, actually I would love to paint anything that looked like anything, but alas I'm crap at painting. Poetry in your own words also paints a picture, even if it's a picture of contentment. One great thing on this site, there's a great collection of original poets, also a few hell-bent on annoying the crap out of you. To the plagiarists. It must be tough copying all day long.

I agree...it must be hell....
Thank you, Paul.
You ARE definitely an Original.

I read the death of originality. A new baby-boomer generation of copycats, too lazy or incompetent to create their own authentic work. They are among the most unwanted critics, and sadly found in the Cafe. I suppose there is a fine line between envy and admiration, but I'm not sure it's seen clearly. That's what I take from this one, J.
