there was no foreword, only a backward glance

there was no foreword, only a backward glance

A Poem by jacob erin-cilberto

there was no foreword, only a backward glance

my heart keeps aging

and becomes a glossary of terms

all the inept versions of love

my eyes are declining

as the silver lining

tarnishes

there is an appendix of aptitude gained

from experience of break-ups

falling off bar stools

the noggin taking a beating

but never learning

one drink too many

one love too many

one heart too many

Plath had nine lives to give

I have nine hearts to live.

Wow the dance with the devil as all of us knows traveling through the doorways of our mind. Nicely done.

thank you, Gray,
j.
Wow... a poignant poem for the times...
Life is fragile... disease is a threat to humanity.
We all have to pass on... but not prematurely...
Every poem is a song to be played softly as a Drum
and an Oboe. truly, Pat

Yes, Jacob, if having your noggin soundly beaten were a teaching tool, I'd be
a freakin' genius. And, as you say, many painful break-ups or toppling from bar stools
won't larn ya no better.
Cleverly expressed!

"one drink too many/one love too many/one heart too many". J, have you ever considered writing country music songs?'
