love repeats like history

similar outcomes,

dates to remember, dates to forget

dancing close

whispering of conquests

wars with fears

a hand reaching out

on field of whatever's

retracing how old hearts felt

before my time

similar outcomes

dates to remember, dates to forget

eyes close to the page

reincarnation resolve

I look at pictures in the books

was that you then

as now?

eyes close to the page

a hand reaching out

I study it cautiously

dancing close

to disaster

love repeats like history

i never passed that class---

Like that thought that makes us stop and wonder if we have seen it before, or felt it. Life is just a collection of moments of feeling serious deja vu.
And taken as a one off, or should that be a two off, it is eerie enough, but when that thought clicks into place, that life is just a series of reruns, with the only thing replaced is the shell we are in, then that is spooky biscuits time and I go hide beneath the bedsheets, pretending it isn't real and it is all a dream and will disappear when I wake. It never does, but you handled far more eloquently and grown up than I could ever hope to.
Like that thought that makes us stop and wonder seen it before, or felt it. Life is just a collection of moments of feeling serious deja vu... Na, only messing 😀

Dates to remember, dates to forget. Cycles in the history of dead romances. Life would be much easier if we didn't have to relive them. But we do and we go through the photograph albums from time to time torturing ourselves with mistakes of the past. Do we learn from experience? I doubt it. Great poem Jacob. So well expressed.

thank you for your kind words, gram,

The only thing I know I've passed, for sure, is a kidney stone.
Maybe history doesn't so much repeat itself; perhaps, history, literally, is a cycle.
And, yes, love behaves, similarly.
Could, even, be that history represents a collective search for love.
Brilliant poem!

It's all a merry go round. The ponies are painted and lovely to look at. The carnival music plays on and on and even though there is motion and movement the ponies never travel far with a beam lodged deep into their hearts and the view seldom changes. I like history, myself. And I like looking at old photographs of people I never knew. It seems almost a sort of voyeurism, looking back into the past and wondering what it was like. They say the grass is greener...always greener, on the other side.

I'm picking up a bit of retrospection j. Realizing where we are in time and where & what our older relatives
dealt with "dates to remember, dates to forget" and how similar is the storyline we are dealing with. The touches of age "eyes close to the page" and that idea that we could be the reincarnation of those who came before.
Where this one took me … and not a bad place to be.
