A Poem by jacob erin-cilberto

Order Now, only a Few Available

love comes with "easy assembly" instructions
some ridiculous diagram,
with letters, arrows,
dipped in ink

but the pieces won't fit properly
the ink dries too fast,
becomes brittle and lets go

we stare at each other, translation lost
no warranty
just empty pockets
no returns when hearts pull
in commercial rendering
tendering

love becomes a throw away,
we feel taken,
then taken
we've become basket cases
Cupid's con

put on,
strung together
with obtuse
longing to have what others have

in the end,
we are back online
searching for the elusive deal.
One delivered already assembled.

Now that line at the end makes way too much sense Jacob. No doubt amazon hasa prototype at the ready, boxed and droned to our door... But only to prime membees.
They're never easy to assemble and don't even come with accessories pictured.
Reminds me of my only success. A jigsaw that said 5 to 6 years on the box, but i managed it in a month 😀

Yes....we always go back online. The earlier purchase discarded. It’s mismatched pieces lie in the junkyard. Could not be deciphered or assembled. Often item itself was not what we ordered. The display was deceptive. And yet we learn nothing. We just keep going back there for more such. Loved these words of wisdom.

Everything is throw away these days and that includes love. My grandparents generation, really stuck things out. My Grandad's attitude was, 'you made your bed, now go and lie on it', or sometimes "you picked him, /her you sort it". There was no divorce. Great use of metaphor in this write Jacob.

70s man wrote the current condition of love more adequately than anybody I know or anything I read. Who knew love would contain business and shallow hobbies in it nowadays. They last like bubbles.
Best wishes to you Sir.🍀

You know what I do? Put the thing together then go back and look at the instructions to see if I got it right. (laughing) It takes two to build this sort of thing though. You may wish your partner an expert in assembly by the time all is said and done. Your metaphor never ceases to enthrall and please. Great stuff.

Love with no return policy.
It is sad when one works hard to assemble the delivered package of love but it fails to fit properly.
It becomes a throw away.
Again, a marvelous work.

Perhaps love is an identity parade, we think we recognise it but... !! As ever your mind works, your hand writes and then, you leave your readers to a busy day analysing your thoughts!

I can but try, my friend.. tis best I can do. Wishing you a smile or two plus peace of mind. x
I think you nailed it. You can get it easily enough but how do you make it work once you've opened up the packaging to look inside.
