A Poem by jacob erin-cilberto

standing ovation

i'm a poetic genius
i can rhyme
lime and chime
sour rings of a clock
my ship is coming to dock

a final rest ashore
i have to run to the rhyme store

i am out of them,
used up my supply
causing me to wonder why

i'm a poetic genius
but i can rhyme
for a dime

so chime in and write yours
we can be poetic geniuses on tour

sold out shows
poems wrapped in iambic bows

free verse crowds bewildered and crushed
soon my words will be hushed

my tongue cut out in scorn
my words pithy and worn

i'm a poetic genius
in my own mind
thus

i come to a close
should stick to prose

this poem i pose
as proof.

You have more than stepped out well past your own mind as a poetic genius.
Contrasting, I only enjoy rhyming, as primitive as mine is and iambic to me is no more than part of a foreign language
I could use the address of that rhyming store

thank you, Dave...
LOL well the bunny is a poetic injustice:/ as I traipse the path of write in my compositional adolescence I am constantly sensing these "familiar" themes and reflections from the folks that have taken this course before me. I often think why didn't they just leave me the cliff notes instead of letting me take the wrong roads of bad passage and give a writer a chance:/ and then I realise these understandings are personal they cant be taught in books to really understand them it has to come from intimacy. As you are a life long teacher I am sure this is something you have felt from both side of the aisle:) but this poem made me think of this:) actually this poem could make me ramble on further but I stop cause you have more important things to read than bunny rambles brother Jacob

dear Jacob... your lines of iambic poetry are only a foot away.
Poetic distance is a blessing as the Bird has flown away...
but will return one day. gently, Pat

Loved this poem sir. Laughed at myself a lot reading this. I love to rhyme, I'm guilty of going overboard at times and yes! I do have my favourite Rhyme Store. Love to write in prose too but the temptation to rhyme always lurks! Thoroughly enjoyed this poem :)
