The Record is Skipping Silently

The Record is Skipping Silently

A Poem by jacob erin-cilberto

The Record is Skipping Silently

horizontal hopefuls

dance

in perpendicular pendulum

swinging back and forth

hearts beating as one

touching,

with rhythm of the saints

heaven's drummer

epitomizes the effort to keep moving

even when the music is in lock-down

and the feet have nowhere to roam

Ahh, I could hear the click-shh, click-shh of my youth, when your dj skills are mistimed and the song ends before you can add more to the stack.
Our records are skipping ever so quietly at the moment Jacob,, which in my mind is just another unexpected intrusion on what we thought reality,
It also brings to mind picnic dancing, where you just lie on the ground as music plays and you just sway along with the sound, while watching the clouds ballet.
I think i was 12 when I last done that. Time for a reprise methinks 😀

hard to sway consistently when the record is skipping.

There’s a lot of hope in these words. There’s so much one desires, hoping against hope. Indeed, the spirit burns brightly on, in the bleakest, darkest of times. Sometimes, even when it knows deep within, there’s no hope.

I like that idea, Lale...yes.
thank you,

I am unsure of the meaning here, but maybe it relates to those living alone. The clock's pendulum keeps swinging back and forth regardless. You have to keep going. You can't give up. Even when the music has stopped and the dance partner has moved on. That can be difficult, really difficult to do, but there is no alternative. I related to this one. A long time ago, but never forgotten.

So true, thanks, Ethel.

First three lines sound rather suggestive.
But, then, I guess, your poems are always "suggestive" of something else.
That's what metaphors do.
In any event, we, seniors," should always avoid permanent stillness by making
an "effort to keep moving."
Intriguing poem!

How true those words are... the beating heart works to its owner's personal beat. Music within and all around calling body, its mind and another's to create a throb of and for that special perpendicular. Friendship, relationship.. in harmony. Perhaps.
