when the floor gets closer

when the floor gets closer

A Poem by jacob erin-cilberto

when the floor gets closer

several dances drown me in their delirium

i want to love you across the floor

even after the record stops grinding its tune

and we are grinding our hearts in humid harmony

feet forgetting age,

heel spurs be damned

i want you in perpendicular paleontology

our ancient bones roasting over hot coals

of longing,

assumptions dipping and soaring

when affections do affectations

the music

becomes mere afterthought.

Wow! When passion plays within, age is no hurdle in the dance! This cheered me up so totally!

I am glad it could make you smile, Dhara...
thank you...

I kept thinking about those feet forgetting age and was reminded of how I suffered from my over enthusiastic dancing at the marina party last year. A classic case of the mind was willing but the bones were weak. I really dig your final stanza. I like the idea of roasting in old age, from the heat of love. I really picked up on a feeling here of ever together for eternity. Great work Jacob.

dear Jacob... love the adage... "and when I grow too old to
dream... I'll have you to remember." Dancing with Bo Jangles
is often an easy maneuver... since a horse can dance and trot
simultaneously.... I discovered when riding a gentle Horse while
our Guide sang the song, Bo Jangles. The sweetest time I ever spent.

Mr. Bojangles...Dance, dance.
thank you, Pat,

I fully agree with the spirit in this one, but suggest some precautions. When feet forget age, it is wise to have someone proficient in CPR on hand.

So easy to get lost on this one.
Music has a way of heightening a mood that already exists.
