Storm

Storm

A Poem by jacob erin-cilberto

Storm

a hurricane of solidarity

as a nation is torn apart

by blood and rain

the bones of a country

shattered like the felled trees

that were offering no resistance

and had no weapons to speak of

little children with a backseat view

screaming as their innocence

is lifted and blown away

with the rapid-fire winds

of prejudice

and an angry Mother Nature

as nurturing is nothing more than

a dilapidated drink of devastation

causing us to weave wearily

and fall over dead.

Changing direction is a Challenge... praying for Healing Winds
to scatter Seeds of intelligent reasoning and miracles where only
destruction dictates our destiny. If only we Believe and Pray for a better way.
With 💕 love and devotion... gently, Pat 🙏 💕

Yes, so true what you say, Dear Pat,

Now we know who believes what... will work for our Country.
It is perfectly clear and we each have a Choice... as the Bell tolls.

It seems between man and nature, there is intent on both sides to wipe out and erase any positive strides we have taken over the years, no matter how small they are and it is gathering momentum.
The weather rages on, as humanity swims against the tide of reason, growing in rage and seemingly intent on our mutually assured destruction.
What the answer is I have no idea, but perhaps reminding ourselves of the term humanity is a start. I reckon we've got enough s**t to deal with without making more differences apparent.
We want to fit in yet be unique. No wonder we are so confused.

Yes, that is so true, Lorry...we do want to be unique...but we feel the need to be accepted.
Storms, fires, pandemics and shootings. Someone please stop 2020. I want to get off!

wow Jacob, you’ve written a “perfect storm” of a poem... hitting us smack in the conscious and demanding to be heard!!!! I can hear the church ladies saying “ hmm hmmm hmmmm testify Jacob, testify” or as we say out in the streets, “speak truth to justice Jacob”....

a storm is definitely coming, dark clouds already here, wind picking up and blood and rain advancing on the horizon.... the question is will it be a horrific, reactionary storm or a liberating one??? there still is time to gather forces, but as Dylan/Jimi once sang, “let’s not speak falsely now, the hour is getting late”.... and your poem speaks no false words.... nicely done Jacob

thank you for your kind and understanding review, Curt.

What a powerful, evocative way to express how most feel about everything that's pummeling this nation (not to mention the globe). I love how you begin with the hurricane but quickly widen the lens to include so much s**t piled up in every direction, the logical leap we all make when yet another tragedy is thrown down from the thunder Gods . . . heaven help us! (((HUGS))) Fondly, Margie

It is a storm that has been a long time coming. If only there was solidarity among the people ... but certain factions seem to be pushing their own agendas that benefit from chaos.
Children often see things they needn't see from the backseat and then one day they are older and it is them behind the wheel driving the bus of social unrest.

Well done j.

Yes the damn agendas...the partisan politics..they will destroy us all before we can be saved.

A stretch of devastating events kicked off this year. And each time we wondered if this could get any worse. Wildfires, airplane crashes, killings and deaths, social and political unrest, floods, explosions, and now a storm; all under the cloud of the horrifying pandemic. Truly, a hurricane of solidarity is what we have been experiencing this entire year. And those of us who are safe, till now are nothing more than "little children with a backseat view screaming".
