Storm

Storm

A Poem by jacob erin-cilberto

Storm

a hurricane of solidarity

as a nation is torn apart

by blood and rain

the bones of a country

shattered like the felled trees

that were offering no resistance

and had no weapons to speak of

little children with a backseat view

screaming as their innocence

is lifted and blown away

with the rapid-fire winds

of prejudice

and an angry Mother Nature

as nurturing is nothing more than

a dilapidated drink of devastation

causing us to weave wearily

and fall over dead.

Mother nature treats us all the same. Black, white, young and old.
Not always fairly though. Or maybe it's fair given how we've treated her?

thank you

There seems to be no respite my friend. Covid, rioting, wildfires and now a hurricane. We seem to be on the brink, really.

I love the way you have woven these news items into one as the latest natural disaster makes landfall and the shooting of Jacob Blake and the consequent unrest. I do think if one considers crime statistics and deaths at the hands of the police one will see that just as many white folk are killed in such circumstances. Granted more black people are disproportionately involved in crime and punishment but this has to do with poverty and lack of opportunity rather than police brutality. Hell who would be a policeman in the USA knowing there are so many 'Rambo' guns on the streets in the wrong hands?

lots of truth in what you say here, John...
thank you for your insights.

Hurricanes do not recognise colour, creed or anything else. So yes, solidarity in the way it sweeps away everyone in its path of devastation. The news on the radio this morning was grim Jacob. :(
