Diplomas and alliterative regrets

A Poem by jacob erin-cilberto

Diplomas and alliterative regrets

elementary education in love

the early years teach us

to say goodbye

to be self-centered,

find no compromise

for girls to hate boys

and boys to hate girls

to fail

to have do overs

and fail

to be curious

and fail

high school education in love

teaches

freedom to be ourselves

to journey to the back seat

and agree with heavy breaths

brake lights turned off

pregnant pauses between the pages

of lectures

college education in love

Master’s degrees

in finding the sweet spot

putting the books aside

dorm room rendezvous'

two bodies studying together

eventually the Doctorate in love

we have the diploma

that hangs on the wall

in our living room

so others can peruse

be taken aback by our

amour-academia achievements

then ask why we live alone.

Too many nights and too many Miller Lights make Jack a little less able to concentrate ... although it seems
that those back seat rendezvous are well remembered.

A little shot of the past that reminds us love was more than just the summer of '69

Good one j. thanks for the walk down memory lane.

Sadly!!! People concentrate so much on academic qualifications and forget the social lives

Unfortunately, Cassie, i made college much harder by remembering the social life a bit too much.

Will say little more than I love this jacob, so cleverly wrought.

Problem is of course, and as we all know, most people rarely get to doctorate level;
and even if they do, it's a fair bet is it not, that they will sadly remain little more than
'star crossed' experts, when it comes to the age old slippery subject of love. :))

Through the stages of learning and building relationships. They are like sandcastles Jacob. Some last longer than others. You get much pleasure from building them up but they are all doomed eventually because nothing lasts forever. When the tide turns....... I felt regret here Jacob and remembered what fine company cats are and that not everything that happens is within our control. Great poetry, so much going on in these lines.

This is another powerful piece filled with a deep brittle vitriol as the scornful tone attacks the way in which we are taught, encouraged to build (or not) relationships. This flows from word to word like all your poetry Jacob and is awe inspiring!
