A Poem by jacob erin-cilberto

fellow veterans

acorns scream,

then are silenced

as they meet my roof

with a crackling thud

the squirrels are protracted

to clean up bodies

the cots of war

lodged between teeth

I heard it, I saw it. I was with you. Many people don't like squirrels and think they are vermin, but I am a lover of sentient creatures. I also saw flashes of stretcher bearers in helmets carrying away injured soldiers. It amazes me how much I can glean from one of your short writes. You are a planter of thought and imagery, that's why you are such a good poet.

You are no plodder. You are nimble with words :)
That opening line simply blew me to 'kingdom come', fantastic original and I experience it as I read watching those pesky greys scampering around in our garden. Then it simply follows on with such classic lines with such force I could hear the thud!
