a final sermon

a final sermon

A Poem by jacob erin-cilberto

a final sermon

there were days under the influence

of superfluous flowers

and words,

and your eyes,

and mine, dilated in sensual prayer

as the statue of Mary

blushed

the roses spoke

of love,

then they interred themselves

of thorny departure

we gathered petals

of us

pressed them within a hymnal

as grief wove its way down the aisle

then,

stepped outside of what we had been...

We do not just get drunk on wine. We really can be intoxicated by nature.

thank you for your kind words, adorno,
j.
To me these lines read that a great deal of effort had been made by one party to keep the marriage going. Catholics in those days did not divorce easily. Sadly that effort was not reciprocated and it ended in grief anyway. Sad story. Very relatable. Beautifully penned J.

thank you for your kind words, and understanding, Chris...

Now this spake in such Catholic terms of the ending. Of the break up of a relationship and the transition from angst to empty.
