Rulers and Sins

Rulers and Sins

A Poem by jacob erin-cilberto

Rulers and Sins

i learned division in fourth grade

and

i learned it again

with the distinction

and distraction

of

a quotient dividing a country

there is no remainder

even if two parties

fraction the dividend

let's overthrow insidious raven

empty the nest

it is infected

straw dogs are barking in the night heat

the nuns who taught us once

have passed through the gates

they have their habits

we have our math

we don't need books

or lessons

we need to fly into a raging wind

a winged vote

a murder of ravens

a murder of a raven

a parliament of reason

the wise ones are watching

and they can figure out

what's left over.

this is without doubt a very sophisticated poem jacob and much like a fine wine, has many hidden depths to it.. that will if sipped and not just knocked back for the sake of it invariably rise to greet the palate accordingly .. I like my own interpretation number two .. several of the others are either too frightening or hard to swallow this early in the day ...

thank you, Neville,

There's very little left over when battles are fought and victories won for all the wrong reasons. Rules are killed, the noise is ugly as is the aftermath. What choices do we have left? Hardly any and only some residual hope for a few good men at the helm of affairs. A very compelling poem on the ongoing struggle for power!

thank you, AJNJ...appreciate your review,

A very crucial election is coming up and one in the most trying of times with the country divided more than ever before. Unfortunately, like most countries today, the candidates are not very promising with both preferring to divide to conquer instead of bringing the people together for the common good. It's just another diseased aspect of our modern society; good reason and intention sacrificed at the altar of ego for votes. This is a complex political commentary wrapped in oodles of metaphors, Jacob. Makes for a fascinating read. 💛
