bedsores

bedsores

A Poem by jacob erin-cilberto

bedsores

i love

and then

i lose faith when the sun rises

and the shadows from the blind

streak across the empty side

of my eyes

i see floating angels

i love

and then

there is an imprint on the other pillow

a delicate smile rested upon

the downy softness

of desire

i love

and then

it's night time again

and i imagine

the belated response

belated response

i search

and then

you rise with the faith of a sun

i open the blinds

the angels land

they are humans again

they are crying

for me

i love

and then

i test my wings

shed a feather

it lands on the pillow

with the imprint

we fly away together

looking down

there is a window

it is cracked and dusty

the dream is closed.

In dreams, we can gaze at the empty pillow and imagine someone there. Perhaps an angel...or a demon who masqueraded as an angel. There is a magical dreamy quality to this one, Jacob. In dreams, all things are possible. If our waking lives could match our lives while asleep, we might all be happier. A little different poem from you. I enjoyed it. Lydi**

thank you, Lydi.

I honestly think this is one of the best poems I've read in some time. I like the repetition words, such as "I love them" "And then" But also repetition of several other words that seem to enhance the poem. 10/10. Go publish this somewhere!

thank you for this very kind review....quite encouraging...

The title and the rest of the poem are at odds I feel. There is a disconcerting juxtaposition there. I like the line about faith in the sun- we have faith that it will rise every day but we do not know for sure. Like so many things.

I feel like a lonely heart searching the companion... That was once... But with the sunlight all the hopes evaporates... And the empty bed feels as bed sores. I like the delicate smile imprint on the other pillow... So lyrical

thank you for your insightful review, Dreamer...

Another powerful write from the pen of the master of the metaphor as you seem to explore sleep as a replacement for real life. Too much lying still in bed equals bed sores. Bed sores lead to pain and sorrow and strife. And I know as a long time ago I was a nurse.

I have read this poem many times Jacob. The more I read it, the more I feel. There is much love here. Angels and feathers always bring comfort in my opinion. I think there are times when we would all wish for the wings of an angel.
