the summons

the summons

A Poem by jacob erin-cilberto

the summons

imperfect lovers

hazard affection in a bottle

of aging wine

tie-dyed chuckles

laughing at each other's flaws

with graceful countenance

and a tender intuition

that no matter the blemish

they could ne'er

opt to be standoffish

and deny love

when that bottle is

unbarred

and they hold each other

in plausible stupor.

Ah yes! The age-old social lubricant. You convey the stumbling unfamiliarity in a palpable & realistic way . . . two with simmering potential, rattled & dazzled, I needed a glass of vino to get thru this read! (((HUGS))) Fondly, Margie

smiling here....thank you, Margie,

I get the impression of lovers of a certain age who have known each other a long time. Imperfections no longer bother them; they laugh at them. Their affection may be a "plausible stupor," but it's definitely real.

Always looking out for me, always ahead of herself. I've often wondered how I could have been so lucky. This August marked our 58th and she is just as wonderful now as on our wedding day, only better.

Take care - Dave

Ain't love grand, even in those heady days one could be love drunk without having a drop, just all those could pheromones released in the body and everybody happy.

An aging romance is not 'pretty'... however 'love is blind'...
be kind and kiss the hand that butters your toast and spreads
the Jam and sweetens your tea. truly, Pat

Tipsy love is still love. I like that and a tipsy fight is still better than no fight yes?

too much...my dear dear dear friend John G. lives in Melbourne, stop by and say Hi for me...:)
Ha! The title reminded me of a John Grisham novel and the poem itself had as much intrigue. A pair of aged, love drunk, drunks falling into each other's arms despite all the warts lol! Another from the vast metaphor stable of your imagination Jacob.
