Spare Tires and Gnarled Brains

Spare Tires and Gnarled Brains

A Poem by jacob erin-cilberto

Spare Tires and Gnarled Brains

when the bones of being

start aching for answers

arthritic intentions curl unnaturally

the dying sets in

wisdom leaves us naked

in a grave of "meant to's"

when the bones of being

start aching for answers

we oil the joints with understanding

but find they rust nonetheless

and when the movement ceases

we are bestial bargains

searching a sale

in some back-alley garage

where all the pertinent questions

find themselves parked.

Unfortunately, some answers will always lie beyond our reach. As the poem says, we oil the joints with understanding, they still find only rust. In the end, all the questions we really seek answers to end up parked together. Still, it was good to ask them. Why else are we here?

yes, exactly...why else are we here?
thank you for your understanding, John,
j.
Our bodies ache and creak like an old Chevrolet...
however, the shift still handles well. The backseat memories
lie in waiting for the radio to play old familiar tunes...
Summertime blues and Moonlight muse... we've paid our dues...
A poetic approach to getting a grip and taking a trip along the
Ocean by-ways where adventure was the reward of a long day.
Just shift gears... and dream away. The best is yet to be.
Grab the Key and start 'er up. gently, Pat

yes indeed! seeking wisdom and understanding takes a courageous soul, me thinks .. when they arrive we may get more than we bargained for .. instead of elevating and becoming larger .. we shrink .. me thinks ;) you are still writing your best says i! glad i did not miss this one .. i certainly feel you

Don't know why a pain fluttered in me reading those lines.... We search meaning of life time and again... But we reach at a time when adjust ourvlselves with all that 'meant to'.. But life has a value unlike the life less things lying in the junk- yard.

I will certainly write one... Thank you for motivating me.... Take care
The aches and pains continue to grow. Getting old is a b***h, the only bright side is, it beats the alternative. How many of us reminese about all the things we were once able to do, and forget how thankful we should be for all the things we can still do.

Oh ya. I don't know why but I feel like i'm in Fear and Loathing right now. I think that title did it for me and maybe the song I'm listening to but this is great! There is a pace that I truly enjoy.

"we oil the joints with understanding". I envy that line. Wow.

The pertinent questions remain parked forever perhaps. Its a lifetime quest and mostly without real answers. Meanwhile, we grow tired of searching, rust and cease to live without any real answers as to what and why is life...

You are welcome sir ...🤗
You know I have been permeating on this ... exactly this .. well, similar ... the root, the vein. I have come away fro the weekend to a spot on Australias Hawksbury river which is only acessible by boat ... amazing how it caers the mind ... and yet the questions are still remaining unanswered.

I love this for the introspection it has caused ... I was meant to land here today ... thanks for that J XX

Dear Jacob, my mind wandered with these lines. Firstly to my aching joints in this damp weather. Yes, I feel I need an oil can before I can get going in the morning. I know many suffer from arthritis and muscular pain as we slow dance into our golden years. Then I thought of my poor car. Had her since new. She is 13 years old and I love her to bits. She isn't rusting, but she is showing signs of wear and tear, but I am not ready to trade her in. She can die on me.
