A Poem by jacob erin-cilberto

the brazen lovers

wrapped in American flags

find peace in the stars

wave at all the futility

combine skin into one extension

patriotic parenting

the kids wake to a blind world

mother and father speak without lips

crying dissuaded

rip off the flags

we're wafting

in the clutch of a fever.

I think it is fair to say it is not just America where values appear threadbare and people struggle to understand what they stand for. That great 'big melting pot' is a bit of a minx as the shape of power shifts and old certainties become less than certain.

unimaginably corrupt and far too deeply entrenched Establishment.
Impressive poetry, Jacob.

thank you for your insightful words, Jimmy...
The American flag and all it stands for, appears to have lost meaning to many. All that encompassed the American dream, freedom, liberty, the land of opportunity for all. Is it about to change? That's where I drifted to Jacob, in the very early hours. Not long to election day now :)
