Whisper

Whisper

A Poem by jacob erin-cilberto

Whisper

i must scream

i think.

or write shouted words

slammed into the white soft cushion

of monotony

scream at the leaves

scattered on my front lawn

not social distancing

wearing no masks

the risk takers who jumped from the trees

months back

when the cold reality

sent warning breezes

autumn bellows out in its own right

winter shuts autumn's mouth

freezes it gently,

a gag

but not funny

there is a pandemic

of crazy

of nonsense coughed

onto the page

of life

life, an injustice

to end

alone

i must scream

do you think?

Well i am counting my blessings, thank goodness for the technology all around my home.
I have re-discoverd music that that i loved in years gone past from old cds, discovered tv programmes that are not nearly as boring as i thought they were . using art materials long ago discarded and re-discovered and i have stopped worrying that i should be visiting people .
Maybe it comes from being the only child of elderly parents, who gave me the most boring start in life... i had to make my own happiness and now it has come in useful lol.
Of course when the spring breaks through i am hoping that i can re-evalulate things , but whilst it's cold and dark i am happy to hibernate all on my own .
Fake news is just not worth worrying about, at the moment most news is full of lies anyway...

two of the fortunate few these days Jacob :)
I too am deeply unhappy about all the fake news. Let me simply pass on my best wishes to everybody here, wear a mask, be clever, stay healthy. And as ever, a fine poem.

Yes, stay healthy, be clever...if only.]
thank you for your words, Leslie,

Unfortunately, my oldest boy is a card carrying member of the conspiracy theorists ... hard to go along with all that nonsense ... although I sometime think there maybe an iota of truth to some of it.
But, the idea that Bill Gates is in charge of loading the new vaccines with nanobots is a bit farfetched ...
George Soros on the other hand ..............

Good one j.
Now, I believe you need to find a large thick pillow to scream into or open the windows wide and scream ... "I'm mad as Hell and I'm not going to take it anymore."

Take care.

I agree Jacob.
"there is a pandemic

I quit reading the new. Can't tell the truth from a life anymore. Powerful and logical thoughts shared my friend.

And now we know how it feels to be the guy in the park, screaming at pigeons, while everyone thinks we're the crazy ones for telling them to grow a set and mask up, whilst the flat earthers cough and splutter their indifference onto others and act like nothing has changed.
If only they would walk to the edge of the map and fall off. Maybe then we could get back to whatever that thing is that we used to have, in the long long ago. I think it was called normality.

The pandemic really hangs over this one. The speaker, like many of us, is feeling boredom from months of the same old same old caused by the lack of options that is one of the curses of Covid. The leaves on the lawn are more than just leaves, I think. They may symbolize the bodies of those who ventured out too early and were stricken. The seasons are passing with no real change for most of us. The "pandemic of nonsense" could mean many things, but possibly the weird ways in which this plague has disrupted our lives is being described. In the end, the possibility of lonely death is enough to make one scream. The whole thing sucks, does it not?

Extremely insightful review, John, thank you.

Prosopopoeia is that figure of speech in which the imaginary person is represented as speaking. Whisper happens when a part of the body is impaired; too impaired to be corrupted or unrestrained. I agree. There is a pandemic of crazy. It climbs the walls of the more concerned. I has taken over our towns... Yet, Every thing you write is lovely now... I am fighting with the procumbent will to rise above the the doldrums of my own vital loveliness. With so much Covid death here in Detroit....poetry has become a mortal fight...Thank you my friend for saying this for me.....dana

Thank you for your kind words, dana,

I am thankful for the noise of family living with me. The silence of living alone through covid isolation is difficult to contemplate. I can remember once feeling so depressed that no words would come out and a family member told me to go find an empty field in the country and scream at the top of my head and not to leave until it had all come out. Your lines sent me back to that times. We live in crazy times, scream if you want to. Others will be doing it too.
