the Creature

the Creature

A Poem by jacob erin-cilberto

the Creature

let's converse on love

for a change

some diversity of heart

of art

that has been stifled by madness

writing into a frenzy of incited thoughts

imagination

out of control

murdering smiles

for miles of malicious wandering

let's converse on love

or did we forget that sweet little noun

with the proper meaning

even in its lower case

I love you in another time

the one before this

when it stood still

and you stood still

and I kissed you into midnight madness

the good kind

let's converse on love

what do you say?

again you leave me bleeding

scars in a hope chest

my art sealed in my brain

I can no longer let it loose

the torches are coming for me

the skin of my muse

seared

into arears

I've gotten carried away again

I am sorry I have

inserted an amoral intellect

into my creation.

This poem feels like me lately. I keep trying to conjure up a romantic wellspring so I can do some Valentines Day writing, but I keep veering off into more jagged rocky territory. Your poem has that sinewave trajectory, trying to talk about love, but then devolving into other teeth-jarring chatter, rise & dip, rise & dip (((HUGS))) Fondly, Margie

Yes, love poetry is evasive for me....it slips out every so often...but usually
hides.

Love is a strange, mysterious force. It has driven the destinies of nations and empires, in some cases. I really like the prose of this piece; sometimes simplicity is the greatest form of beauty.

thank you for your kind words, Kaylor,

Thank you for sharing this thought provoking piece... there is certainly more to love than the emotion itself... I think many forget or never knew in the first place.. not having stellar role models that demonstrate love is actually a verb....

... combined with commitment, faith, compassion, empathy .. I could go on and on...

“I kissed you into Moonlight Madness... “.
where feathers became Heather and the scent
of lavender fields became forever entwined in
melancholy musical moments... truly touching, Pat

Love is > than the cancel culture of selective forgetfulness. People would much rather march than muse; and would much rather recite the second amendment than "Ariel' or "I Saw In Louisiana A Live Oak Growing". Because in that poem, Whitman had to go someplace to gather 'inspiration' to write it. But 'muse' is a dervish that we poets believe to have supernatural powers. and love is far too precious an emotion to waste on the seditious mob. I hear you brother, and I agree. dana

So many things are there while talking about love, some memory soothes , some left abraded scar... But still it is so enticing one can not ignore. And the flower or the fire both are the result of that heart's creation...

The conversation above love. Never know where the conversation shall end Jacob.
"again you leave me bleeding
scars in a hope chest"
The above lines. I have create and known. I tell people, in love. No second chances. We had danced too long and we are not brave no-more. Outstanding poetry shared my friend.

love ... the muse ... the madness hmmmmmm ;)
"I am sorry I have
inserted an amoral intellect
into my creation." I think our Creator must say the same.
"murdering smiles
for miles of malicious wandering" .. a wanderer will see many things ... from upper to lower case;) easy to become jaded in this worldly a(no)moral place .. and suffer imaginings out of control
"my art sealed in my brain
I can no longer let it loose" wow! devastating for artists ... for me these lines are most powerful ... it just kills me sir.
title is a solid hook for me .. the rawness is salting me own old wounds ... i really like the invitation to sit down and talk about love .. its a direct intention to the reader but also to that past love or loves .. who have remained in memory to haunt, taunt and terrify ... first read this morning .. i am up at just passed midnight .. waking as i do with a whirlwind of thoughts, imaginings and prayer .. i get up to stop the maelstrom .. and am greeted with this deep, emotive, common tongued poem ... it gives me a kick start my friend .. we have a super bright full moon giving a pearl glow to the forest floor through thick fog and mist this morning. Beauregard got up and took me out to oversee his business i guess .. he's back to bed but I'm afraid that will allude me until mid afternoon when most assuredly i will fall helplessly into a very fine nap. blessing on you my friend ... our vaccine distribution is a little ahead of our schedule so i am on the list because of age ... our first responders, health care workers, teachers and then over 70s basically is how we are doing it here in the sticks. do you ever think covid is the Feds "solution" to doomsday SS and Medicare?
