I live an alternative lifestyle

I write poetry,

but same word marriage 

is illegal,

so I will just assume

a cursive contract

until we are allowed

to compose a poem

within the sanctity

and sacrament 

of virtual, virtuous verse.

Hello. My name is Ted and I'm a poet.

The most disappointing thing for me is to ask a friend if they'd like to see some of my stuff only to be told "I don't read".

That alternative lifestyle and same word marriage is as strange to most as that cursive contract.

But stranger still is to deal with those who have never heard of Ovid ... Keats ... Coleridge or Plath.
I don't care if they've never read them ... but the names should at least be recognizable.

That is a fine description of a poet's life....."an alternative lifestyle". Perhaps there is some sort of stigma attached to writing poetry nowadays, but I suppose all art is frowned upon by the uninterested majority. I say we rock the status quo and spray our poetic graffiti all over the cities. Then we'll be a force to be reckoned with. 🌹

I smiled when I read those opening lines. Only a poet would understand them. On the rare occasions when I have disclosed to others that I write poetry, I wait with interest the reaction.

At times I have felt almost alien :))

I would say that for some their relationship with poetry could be more fruitful and comforting than marriage.

A partnership in marriage is far more risky. You have to choose wisely. Poetry is a much safer bet :)

This is very cleverly written. Poetry has a stigma attached maybe it’s our feminine side. Certainly amongst the macho kind, their ignorance is their fear. I read our language is primarily used to woo women and that is an art in itself lol.
