immediately thought of 'salem's lot'. i currently live in the city next to salem.
Stephen King is roasting macabre marshmallows
on his own sun
telling tales that get lost in translation
as the moon rises and we hear a crackling sound
fear edges closer.
good stuff. great metaphorical imagery with a twisted fear factor ... :)

I still regret we didn't have time to stop and see Emily's house...my buddy did and he said it was fascinating...and she is and always will be my favorite poet, so that was my loss.
If fear is the opposite of love, it sounds like the latter is having a bad night. Wolves are howling, witches are floating above the trees, and fear keeps inching ever closer. I think love needs a good, stiff drink.

Very imaginative!! I love the setting of this poem; deep in the dark wood with wolves howling scares me already... then you add witches flying above the trees; Stephen King brings in the most macabre of all, but that is what he writes about, scary stuff....not my favorite but I think it is clever of you to make it the final touch on your piece ...and we all know what happens then....
Loved it!!!

PS I wrote a review of Pat Wedel's poem celebrating your birthday...you should read it...you get a lot of kudos....

Visually dark and scary but I have to admit to being a fan of Stephen King and would be happy to be in his company. A rising moon is always a bonus. A night with no moon would be scarier still. An intriguing piece your muse has come up with here J.

oooooooooo spooky! so few lines and words but the setting and scene are vivid and striking in their clarity ..your witches remind me of the banshees of Irish lore ... i still have the same image of them and can hear their wails that herald back to me childhood ... it's that "edge" you have created that gets me .. the cutting edge .. yeeeeeeeooooooooooooooowwwwwwwww!

ps. read most of Stevie boys stuff .. but he got to repeating the same formulae over and over so haven't read much of his recent stuff .. but he holds that high spot in the scary realm doesn't he!?

I'll have to check that out ... thanks for sharing!
I loved the poem Jacob. I do like the words of Stephen King. His mind must never rest. A writing demon. We need writers who make us think and wander to scary places. Thank you for sharing the amazing poetry and your thoughts.
