Voices

Voices

A Poem by jacob erin-cilberto

Voices

write faster

said my thoughts

weep slower

said my eyes

poem yourself to sleep

said my better judgment

wake up with a new heart

said my wit

as I drifted off

to laugh

and they quieted.

Hi Jacob, another wonderful write from your pen, Yes, those voices can surely drive you mad, if you let them. They always seem to want to have the last word, but that word should always be ours. Another creative and skilful write from your golden pen. Have a wonderful Wednesday. Hugs....Mike.

You are welcome, Jacob. Have a wonderful Wednesday....Mike.
oh man! how those voices can drive one insane ... trying to fall into slumberland .. poets weep and write .. inspirations flash and we scramble to get it all down ... sure of it's brilliance .. until the infamous "morning after" :)))))))))))))))) ... what a great idea "poem yourself to sleep" ..I typically "novel" me self and it usually doesn't take long ... my difficulty is not in falling to sleep but in staying asleep ... waking the "Voices" command my attention ... I usually just get up to "quiet" them ;) ...love your poem ...i feel a kinship in it.

I think words own us writers more than we own the words and sometimes that can be intensely emotive, your poetry is stunningly visual as it is written, beautiful :)

I don't own them, never have professed to, just a conduit who grabs them from somewhere and nowhere .. read more
Love this one as at times when you go to write your words from voices deep, they slip away from you, leaving in a peril ;-]. Nice one

I love this piece and your use of the word, so imaginative! Tell those voices to run….
Your poetry is perfect, and they are criticizing you… glad you could laugh it off at the end…..
Best, B.

You're very welcome J
To die, to sleep—
To sleep—perchance to dream. Ay, there’s the rub!

As our friend Will stated ... and yet we embrace the little death each night and poems often rise unbidden in the darkness.

Sometimes our better judgement is found at our wit's end and laughter is truly the only medicine that cures.

Good one j.

GOOD! that You ended this with a smile even if an irony because if not I was about to shed few tears! that's the life of a true poet, words, thoughts, feelings, haunt him everywhere and anywhere, expectedly and unexpectedly. great and clever one Mr. J!
